Scandinavian design is a style from Denmark, Norway and Sweden built on function, natural materials, clean lines, light and quiet restraint. At its heart is a simple idea: that everyday objects should be both useful and beautiful.

Plenty of brands borrow the look, so it is worth knowing which are the real thing. Our Scandinavian collection is entirely Danish and Swedish. From Denmark we stock ferm Living, HAY, Studio Arhoj, Rains, House Doctor, Moebe, Meraki, Nicolas Vahé, Notem Studio, Broste Copenhagen, Have A Look, Shangies by Stilov, Pernille Corydon and Soi Copenhagen. Danish design is part of Scandinavian design. Denmark has an especially strong design tradition, so many of the best known Scandinavian brands are Danish, but Sweden, Norway and the wider Nordic region contribute too.

Four, and each brings something different. Fine Little Day offers bold, nature inspired prints on cushions and posters, Lindform makes organic ceramics and vases influenced by both Nordic and Japanese design, Storefactory is the one for elegant candles, candleholders and home decor, and DBKD adds understated ceramics and decorative pieces.

This is the heart of the collection. ferm Living covers the whole home, from furniture and lighting to its much loved Ripple glassware, while HAY brings colour and clever everyday objects. For tableware and decor, look to House Doctor, Broste Copenhagen, Storefactory, DBKD and Lindform. Moebe is the one for precise, minimal picture frames and shelving, Studio Arhoj for hand glazed ceramics, and Fine Little Day for graphic Swedish prints and cushions.

Nicolas Vahé is our go to, a Danish brand making gourmet oils, salts, seasonings and kitchen tools with the same restraint as the best Nordic homeware. Its condiments and cheese knives make especially good small gifts. HAY and ferm Living also cover kitchen textiles, glassware and serving pieces.

Meraki, from Denmark, makes organic bath, body and home fragrance with natural ingredients and a soft, understated look. The hand soaps, body washes and reed diffusers are a lovely way to bring Scandinavian calm into a bathroom.

Two, both Danish. Pernille Corydon makes delicate, nature inspired pieces in recycled silver and gold plating, while Soï Copenhagen creates crystal jewellery where each stone is chosen for its meaning, from calm and strength to love and balance.

Notem Studio is the standout, a Danish brand making beautifully considered notebooks and undated planners with quality paper and clean covers. Studio Arhoj also does lovely small desk pieces, including its pencils and erasers.
